It is opposite the well-known Italian restaurant and café called "Nonnas". There are bus stops near the end of Dover Road, and all the buses from the city centre numbered 80–88 stop there, approximately every 10 minutes. There is on-street parking near his house. There are two steps up from the pavement to the house (i.e. not fully accessible for people with disabilities.)

Matthew was born in 1952 in Newcastle, went to school in Exeter, and came to Sheffield originally to study English Literature. After working as a commis chef, and then teaching and managing in education, he switched to voluntary work and to helping people with emotional distress. He has frequently broadcast on local radio, and recently qualified as a sex therapist.
